Air Conditioning Maintenance Tips
Ceiling damage prevention
A
float switch installed in the
secondary drain pan - in conjunction with a periodic inspection of
the secondary drain line outlet at the eave of the house - is the
best way to prevent ceiling damage from air conditioning condensate
overflow.
The
likelihood of ceiling damage
increases greatly if your A/C system is not equipped with an overflow
switch. Periodic inspections of the secondary drain pipe outlet,
located on one side of the house near the overhang, is a good way to
check for water overflow to prevent ceiling damage.
In
the event that both primary and
secondary drain pipe outlet are located at the overhang, they should
be identified as primary and secondary. All condensate should flow
only through the primary line. If the primary line is clogged, then
the condensate will flow through the secondary line. At this point,
the best course of action is to turn the unit off and call for
service.
